MK – a fellow Canadian. My best girl friend here in SEAsia and has also talked me through and seen me through many a time. We travel together and hang out most nights and weekends. Definitely a SEAsian sister!
HKN – very good friend, currently living in Hong Kong. Has talked me through the ups and downs of SEAsian life and occasionally stopped by for some weekends of debauchery. We pretty much talk every day so he has become a key player in my life these past three years.
LF – a big brother type from back home who is currently living in London, UK. I’m good friends with his younger sister but have a solid friendship with him as well. When we’re both back in our hometown we meet up for drinks and talk about living elsewhere.
NBB – New British Boy – met online many moons ago and then lost touch for 3 years. Reconnected a while back and have been meaning to meet up. Pretty sure he’s not an interweb perv but one can never really tell.
BNB – Badly Named Brit – the one guy I have met over here (on holiday in Bali) who I could have seen myself marrying one day. Due to his insensitivity and the fact that he basically used me as an ego booster to get over his marriage last serious relationship, he is no longer a featured character but it was fun at the time**.
Jimmy – a new addition to my life here in SEAsia. Originally from England and like the annoying little brother in every girls life. He has kept me busy when it comes to getting him out of scraps and talking him through stuff. He’s a lot of work but we manage to have lots of fun together.
Brad – a very by-the-book American dude who showed up here in August. Nice to look at but very aloof and not a whole lot of fun.
The X – my last boyfriend before I moved to SEAsia. I think I really did love him and when I’m feeling rather lonely and sad, he’s the one I really miss.
The Crush – my longest running crush ever! Fell in love with him at the sad little age of 10 years old and have been harbouring feelings for the guy ever since.. that’s a good 17 years. Wow. I think I just need a bad date to get me over this thing.
Mr. M (formerly known as Him) - the one guy who lives in my hometown who has the ability to get me to leave this international teaching lifestyle and move back home and make lots of babies… he doesn’t know this.. yet
JC - great friend from home. One of the few who have come to visit me while I’ve been here and we did have a blast. We keep in touch a lot and it helps that she’s a nurse.. can answer all those embarrassing questions a girl has. Plus.. she is the one who can greatly assist me in the scheme to get Him to make a move.
FDB - the first guy I went on a date with. We had a shaky 9 years or so after that but met up for drinks over on this side of the world and are now good friends again. He’s definitely an artist and really inspirational when it comes to encouraging me to write and get myself out there. He was the one who actually suggested I move to Europe.. “some place like Germany”… who knew I’d listen???
DD – Desperate Dave. A guy who I knew back in my childhood but managed to reconnect with via Facebook. He’s an odd one and occasionally sends me the sort of messages one would send his future wife.. not an old buddy from many moons ago. Keeps things interesting.
GFG - Guy From Gym – Brazilian gym instructor. A decade older than me and kind of fun. A nice distraction anyway… and a fun little thing to keep me happy for the last few weeks here. One of those.. why didn’t I meet him earlier kinda things!
CF – a fellow Canadian and English teacher. We work side by side every day and tend to have some pretty deep talks about all kinds of things.
SJ - yet another Canadian who has been living in SEAsia for quite a while.. although a more jungle area. She’s been like a big sister to me. She is one of those people who you can tell anything to and she’ll call you on it but in a way that you don’t really mind. She is also a fellow lover of rye!
Tree – a newer friend I have here. I taught her daughter for a year or so. Her kid was one of my favourites and I became her big sister of sorts. The kid went back to Oz and since her mom is only 10 years older than me and friends with SJ, we talk and hang out a bit. She keeps inviting me to come stay with her family in Australia one day.. and one day I might.
Mo- a very domineering woman who happens to be married to the headmaster. We work together and for my first year here, it was just fine. I let her think I was just a mini version of her but when I got tired of that.. the peace ended. Since then she has been terrorizing me from time to time and making life not as sweet. She wrote some pretty horrible things about me on a reference letter.. however, her worst comment ended up being the one that got me a job at my new school! Ironic?? I love it!
TCB - a guy I met back in Teacher’s College. We commuted to big bad Buffalo New York every week for months and months. We share a cruel sense of humour and appreciation for all things literary. We’re set to write a screenplay this summer.. which may or may not happen. This is all complicated by the fact that he recently admitted to having feelings for me.
GT – my German Teacher. A fellow Canadian who is actually responsible for bringing me to SEAsia. We haven’t been all that close but she can be a really good friend.. and is an awesome teacher!
PAM – Perky American Minx. Sadly we just found out we’re sharing the same fling boy. Not all that nice but we sisters are gonna stick togetha!
Kali – my first friend in Germany. We teach the same subject and live fairly close to each other. We’re quite different in that she’s a yoga master and veg and hippy type but we’re also a lot the same. It’s nice to have a friend!
Adam – the first decent boy I met in Germany. We work together but he teaches in a different department. Perhaps there is some potential there???
MB – my Candian friend here in Germany. She’s leaving me though for China…
Mr. October – an Aussie I took a chance on and lived to regret. We had a perfect week together after meeting in Krakow and him following me home. Then when he went back to Australia things took a turn for the worst. Now he is the first boy who actually scares me.
Nice Dave - A guy I’ve known since I was 12 but had not actually seen him since then. We reconnected via Facebook and have been chatting regularly. New Years Eve Day 2008 we met for coffee and I learned that he really IS a nice guy.
* BNB – The guy I met in Bali and who I actually really fell for. I cut off all contact and ties until I moved to Europe. Since August we have been in touch again.. and while we haven’t actually met up (even though it would be oh so easy now) the flirtation remains. He is pretty much almost everything I want in a guy except for the fact that I think he isn’t quite as available as I’d like him to be. There is something about this guy that sucks me in… BUT now he is getting married and so it’s all done. Tragic really but also good because one can’t keep wondering “what if”.. so now one doesn’t have to.
